The same mileage can feel cheap or expensive depending on the kind of trip you’re planning.
Day trip
National Park car parks charge £2.70 for up to 2 hours or £4.80 for longer – work out which tier you actually need rather than defaulting to the all-day rate.
Weekend break
Long-stay overnight permits run £5.00 for 24 hours or £7.50 for 48 hours – check whether your accommodation includes parking before assuming you’ll need one too.
Week-long holiday
The 2026/27 Annual Car Park Pass is £62 (or £32 if bought after 1 October, valid to 31 March) and works across all 10 National Park car parks – only worth it if you’re driving out most days.
Driving the high passes
Fleet Moss is the highest paved road in England and gets genuinely difficult in wind; Buttertubs Pass is often closed in winter for safety – check conditions before attempting either between autumn and spring.
